Back pain can reduce the quality of life for people of any age. The public forum provided information about prevention, rehabilitation, surgical options, and exercises for back pain and was a collaboration of the University of Michigan Health System Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, and the University of Michigan Bone & Joint Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation Center.

Jim Betts was a standout safety for the Michigan Wolverines in the late '60s, taking and dishing bone-jarring hits every day throughout the fall season and spring drills. However, it was during a pick-up basketball game in the intramural building that he tore his medial meniscus. That injury continues to cause problems today.
